Volcano Cross Section Paper Model

Why is this volcano art helpful?

This cross-section paper model is great volcano art as it shows the structure of a volcano in a simplified way. This art resource links to the topic of volcanoes or extreme earth perfectly - and would complement geography lessons really well so you can teach your class all about these openings in the earth's crust. Test what they've learnt with this volcano labelling diagram!

This is a great model and easy enough for the students to put together. It would be great if you offered a template that wasn't already coloured in so that the students could add their own creative touch. Thanks

Fun facts about volcanoes to go with this volcano art

These fun facts are the perfect addition to volcano art so children can learn more about volcanoes as they get arty!

    • A volcano is an opening in the surface of the earth, usually in a mountainous form that allows gas, hot magna and ash to escape.
    • Volcanoes don’t have to be on land - they can actually occur in the sea and under ice caps!
    • Eruptions occur due to tectonic plates moving towards each other!
    • Volcanoes aren't all bad though - they can bring in tourists which brings money into the area and they improve soil so crops can be grown!
    • We’re not the only planet with volcanoes, different planets and even moons have volcanoes, the biggest of which is on Mars!
